Celebrity Summit Cruise Review Post-Revolutionized (part 1)
Since the Celebrity Summit has been “Revolutionized,” we couldn’t contain our excitement about going on a cruise aboard the ship. I’m going to guess that you are as well!
So, before I go into the reviews of the ship’s food, entertainment, and ports of call, I’ll go through our thoughts of the ship after the latest renovations.
After the updates made to the Celebrity Revolution, we will go on to Part 1 of this Celebrity Summit Cruise Review, which will concentrate on the specifics of the ship itself.
To give you a little bit of context, my family and I have already taken two cruises on the Summit, and we had a lot of fun on this ship. However, there were other parts that were worn out and required a more modern appearance.
Initial Impression of the Cabins
After boarding the ship and having a celebration glass of Champagne upon embarkation, which I consider to be one of Celebrity Cruises’ “Special Touches,” one of the first things we did was proceed to our cabin to put our carry-on luggage and other belongings down.
We were glad to see that Celebrity is now making an effort to make things more comfortable for customers by permitting a speedy drop-off of items in the cabin while the attendant continues to make preparations for everything else.
We saw that the carpets on the stairs and in the hallways had been recently redone and appeared to be in good condition as we moved through the building. On the other hand, we were taken aback when we saw our cabin.
On this voyage, we stayed in an inside cabin, and to tell you the truth, we didn’t have very high hopes. On the other hand, as we opened the door of the cabin, we practically let out a breath. The colour scheme is calm and sophisticated, but despite this, it was quite homey and welcoming.
In addition to that, it had a very spacious feel. After looking at the photographs, I can confidently say that they do not do it justice.
Even while I won’t argue that this inside cabin was as excellent as a Veranda cabin (because let’s face it, a balcony is pretty fantastic!), it was a pleasant surprise to find that the inside cabin was more than habitable. It really was quite lovely to look at.
The only drawbacks were the limited area on the balcony and the absence of windows that let in natural light (which we fully expected).
When we have had balcony cabins, one of our favourite things to do in the morning is to take our coffee out onto the balcony and enjoy some time in our own personal outdoor zone. We did experience some degree of longing for this, despite the fact that our cabin was otherwise rather cosy.
Design, Furnishings, and Facilities of the Cabin
The room was utilised quite effectively for an inside cabin, and the furnishings were not just fairly gorgeous but also very useful. If you have previously been on this ship or one very much like it, you may have noticed that the little sofa has been replaced with a huge chair, and the coffee table has been removed from its previous location.
During the night, our son slept on the sofa chair that transformed into a bed for him. Even the couch bed was one of the most comfy beds we’ve ever slept in.
It is important to point out that there were power outlets and USB ports not just at the desk/vanity but also at the nightstands. Nice improvement!
The shower enclosure was made of glass, and there was plenty of shelves in the bathroom.
Veranda, Oceanview, and Quad cabins are some of the other Celebrity Summit accommodations (cabins for 4)
Because we performed a brief tour of each cabin during the online roll call that we participated in, here are some pictures of the other accommodations as well.
Cafe with an Oceanview (buffet)
We climbed the steps to Deck 10 and headed to the Ocean view Cafe, which is the ship’s version of a buffet.
This location gives the impression of having had a thorough makeover and nearly doesn’t remind you that you’re in a buffet on a cruise liner. It was very roomy, and the colours were bright and airy; also, the various portions of the buffet had a variety of chairs and tables in a variety of configurations.
Someone’s comment that there was wasted space since they could have fit “more” in was something I overheard. I disagree since finally we were in a buffet that did not have a chaotic and loud atmosphere, and the space was not at a premium.
In light of the aforementioned, the Oceanview Cafe is equipped with a number of stations that are located along the sides and in the back of the establishment. These stations include a pasta station, a pizza station, a create-your-own-sandwich station, salads, and hot grilled foods.
One item that caught our attention was the fact that the grill station that had been located there in the past had been replaced with this hot station. It does come with grilled minute steak, chicken breast, and fish, but none of it was prepared according to your specifications.
A helpful hint is that the Oceanview Cafe’s entryway features an ice cream and snack bar that serves very delectable ice cream as well as sorbet that has been freshly produced. On the day that we set sail, we indulged in some mango sorbet, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Sunset Bar
The Sunset Bar is without a doubt my most favoured location on the Celebrity Summit.
#ilovesunsetbar – just sayin’
Following the advice of some new friends that we made, we embarked on our very first Sailaway adventure from this location. They had a valid point. Even though the weather was cloudy, it still had a wonderful ambiance, which included a charming musical couple that played for us as we were leaving.
As you sail away from Cape Liberty and pass beneath the Verazano Bridge, stop by Sailaway at the Sunset Bar to take in the breathtaking view from the aft.
When we go to the buffet, which is located directly in the back, this is our preferred area to sit and dine because the furniture is so lovely.
Although we have a lot of fun at the Sunset Bar, I think it’s important to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the recent changes (and heard from some others on board)
Pros:
Absolutely stunning brand new furniture.
A larger, more open bar.
A more open and airy appearance achieved with lighter woods.
Cons:
The covering over Sunset Bar is a wood design with openings rather than providing complete shade in certain sections, which results in less shade overall.
Tables with a low profile and chairs of a standard size. It was a little difficult to eat at these tables, so unless you’re just going to be having a drink, you should look for one that’s higher up.
Tip: If you prefer Sangria, the Sunset Bar had a fantastic red sangria. The afternoon came to a close with a glass of Sangria while we were still at sea after seeing the ports of call for our cruise. Perfect!
The main part of the pool
It appears like the area surrounding the primary pool has been given a pleasant and subtle makeover. The pools have been repainted in a really attractive colour of marine blue, and she has purchased brand new lounge chairs for them.
The Pool in the Solarium
There is little doubt that the thallostherapy pool is one of the most popular features on the Celebrity Summit. There is music that helps one relax, as well as comfy lounge chairs and sections designated for dialogue. In addition to this, the pool is roofed, so it lets in a lot of natural light.
The well-known and much-loved huge lady sculpture that adorns the Solarium Pool has also received a fresh coat of paint as part of the renovations.
Persian Gardens
The Persian Gardens was given a stunning makeover, and the space now feels more modern. On the Summit, one of the most well-liked amenities is referred to as the “aquatic suite.” This space includes heated loungers, an aromatic steam room, sensory showers, a salt room, a Hamman Turkish bath, and an infrared sauna.
However, if you are sailing in an Aqua Class Veranda stateroom, entry to the Persian Gardens is included in your fare. Passes can be purchased for the entire week. Consider the worth of Aqua Class in light of the fact that it provides access to the spa if you like to relax there (among others)
Tip: There is a ladies restroom that is my favourite public restroom on the ship, and it is conveniently located just inside the doors that go to the inside of the ship from the Solarium Pool.
What makes this so unique?
a stunning and modernised sauna, as well as hair dryers and lotions. This sauna was practically never used, so if you like to sweat it out but are unable to visit Persian Gardens during the week, you can use this one instead. Perhaps, but don’t let anyone know
Cosmopolitan Dining Room
The “revolutionised” dining area of the Cosmopolitan has a colour scheme that is as soothing as the ocean, and it is gorgeous in every other manner as well.
This main dining room used to be ornate, but it was much darker.
Now, it’s bright and contemporary, with seating that’s distinct yet plush and comfortable. It didn’t matter where you sat because all of the chairs offered a high level of comfort.
On this trip, we decided to go with the typical early sitting, which turned out to be rather enjoyable. As we had done on our earlier cruises, it was good to go back to having the same servers every night; however, more on that will be discussed in Part 2 of this series.
Rendez-Vous Lounge
The cosy Rendez-Vous lounge that led into the Cosmopolitan restaurant was another location that had a comprehensive makeover in terms of its appearance and atmosphere.
The appearance is now airy and bright, and it once more gives off the impression of being an entirely different area from what we can recall.
There are now arrangements of seats and clusters of chairs that accommodate 2, 4, 8, and even 10 people. Because of this, the location was perfect for evening games and concerts, in addition to the activities that took place during the day.
People were seen sitting around conversing or playing board games during the times when there were no scheduled events. A place of exceptional beauty.
Theater
The movie theatre recently underwent significant renovations (it was always dark, so being honest hard to see). On the other hand, from the perspective of the passengers, a change that was recognised and that we particularly appreciated was the more comfortable seating. The tones were likewise neutral and rich, which brought them in line with the appearance of the rest of the ship quite well.
Casino
Dark reds have been replaced by blues, greys, and silver; they have now disappeared. My only experience with the casino was simply walking through it, but everything seemed to be in fine shape to me from what I could tell.
Shops at the Celebrity Summit and the surrounding shopping area
Historically speaking, the retail area located on the Summit was referred to as the Emporium. To tell you the truth, I’m not convinced if it is any longer.
However, this area has been beautifully updated with brand new carpeting and a long “sofa” seating arrangement that is one of a kind placed in the centre of the room. This room was made to feel beautiful and light by the use of blues, greys, and silver, along with a bright look.
The shops were good; they were typical of those found on cruise ships.
For those who are curious, in addition to a souvenir shop selling items related to celebrities, there is also an Apple Store, a couple jewellery businesses, a Tag Hueur boutique, and a small collection of vintage Rolex watches that are all for sale (pre-owned). Despite the fact that he didn’t end up buying it, this piqued my son’s curiosity quite a bit.
The outside of the Celebrity Summit.
You can see that the exterior of the Celebrity Summit has also been updated to have a more modern appearance. Bermuda brings out her natural beauty, for sure.
Where were the areas of the Celebrity Summit that were not refurbished?
Despite the fact that this was a more extensive renovation than typical, not every room on the Summit was updated.
I bring this up not as a criticism but rather to give you a more accurate picture of what you should anticipate happening in the future. After all, it is a more seasoned vessel.
Sky Lounge, Crush Martini Bar, and Crush Martinis
The appearance of both of these bars and venues has not been significantly altered and continues to be in line with the “revolutionised” theme of the Celebrity Summit.
Could they use some new seats that are more comfortable? Most likely in the not too distant future.
Both the Grand Foyer and Cafe Al Bacio can be found here.
I adore these areas, and it’s just OK with me that they were not modernised. It came as a surprise to us that the dark wood and yellow gold decor of Cafe Al Bacio had been preserved despite the fact that the rest of the ship had been renovated to have brighter and more contemporary tones.
Having said that, we adore Cafe Al Bacio and have always found it to be a wonderful spot to hang out, have excellent coffee, and indulge in incredible sweets.
A word to the wise: the pastries and desserts that are provided are not only delicious but also included. Try one of the devilishly delicious lemon tarts.
Cellar Masters
Cellar Masters is located on Deck 5 (the upper level) and leads directly into the Cosmopolitan Dining area. This wine bar and lounge has not been modernised, and as a result, the colour scheme and furnishings give off an ominous and slightly worn appearance. This is perhaps the only location where we recognised that there was a problem.
At a get-together hosted by Cruise Critic, we overheard some information to the effect that this location was intended to have been rebuilt, but time ran out. Although I can’t say for certain, I don’t rule out the potential that it’s true.
parts of the cruise ship that had undergone a revolution that we did not see
The Retreat, along with its Deck and Lounge, has suites.
If you have been keeping up with the videos and photographs from the Celebrity Revolution, then you are aware that the Celebrity Summit now has a breathtaking sun deck area located at the front of the ship. This area is reserved for passengers who are staying in suites.
Impression d’ensemble du navire et de la croisière
This was easily one of the most enjoyable cruises we’ve ever been on. Even while the ship is truly just as lovely, if not nicer, than it appears in images, the ship itself is not what makes the vacation so memorable.
Incredible work was done by both the personnel and crew of the Celebrity Summit. The attendant who was responsible for our stateroom was very attentive and did an excellent job. Each and every dinner was elevated by the efforts of our servers. The entertainment was top-notch throughout. Wonderful, both the eats and the drinks. All of this information will be included in the following segment of the cruise review.
Last but not least, Captain Ioannis possessed a wonderful personality. Attending the Captain’s Talk was highly recommended if we had the opportunity to do so (it took place on the final sea day of our voyage). It was a wonderful way to pass some of the time during our day at sea, as well as incredibly interesting.
Review and Recap of the Celebrity Summit (post-revolutionized)
I really hope that Part 1 of this review of a cruise on the Celebrity Summit (after it was revolutionised) was able to provide you with some information about the changes that have been made to the ship, and that the photos were able to provide you with an accurate representation of what you can anticipate when you board the ship for your very own cruise vacation.
