Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship

Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship Review

After completing the inaugural voyage on the Celebrity Edge, here is my review of the ship. Because these inaugural cruises often only last for two nights, there isn’t much opportunity to explore and evaluate the ship.

The cruise was only a few days long, but I still managed to cram as much as I could into that time and take as many pictures as I could. Continue reading for virtually all of the details you’ll require to understand what to anticipate while sailing on the Celebrity Edge.

This vessel marks the beginning of Celebrity Cruises’ brand-new Edge Class of vessels.

Review of the Celebrity Edge

The incredible Celebrity Edge is a product of the cruise company that, more than a decade ago, was the first to popularise the term “modern luxury.” Its innovations are absolutely groundbreaking and take things to an entirely new level.

After being finished in October 2018 in France and having recently arrived at its homeport of Fort Lauderdale, the Celebrity Edge hosted a two-night curiosity cruise for members of the media as well as travel agencies.

Even though two nights on a new ship isn’t a lot of time to get familiar with it, you’d be amazed how much ground you can cover when you’re strapped for time. There were tastings at each of the primary restaurants, as well as visits of the spa and fitness centre. Stateroom excursions were also available.

There wasn’t much of a chance to take things slow anywhere on the ship, from the incredibly and ingeniously built outside decks to the sparkling Grand Plaza that spans three stories.

Celebrity Edge has really put in the work to earn her place as the first of four cruise ships in the Edge class. Not only in novel ideas regarding food, exercise, and leisure, but also in novel experiences regarding visual entertainment that are unlike anything you have ever seen on a cruise ship. Or even in any location.

Therefore, let’s begin the highlights of my honest-to-goodness review of Celebrity Edge with some actual photographs rather than artist renditions.

A Few Quick Facts:

Construction began in 2018

129 000 metric tonnes in weight

Passengers: 2,908

Crew: 1,320

Staterooms: 1,467

Inside staterooms: 131

Solo staterooms: 16 – none within

Dining venues: 27

Locations That Are Open To The Public

The Grand Plaza is the very first feature that catches your attention as you start to explore the area. An open space that spans three floors and houses the ship’s most important gathering spot, the Martini Bar. Additionally, there is the Grand Plaza Café in addition to Café al Bacio.

In addition, there are a few expensive shops in the area, such as Tiffany & Co., Coach, and an Apple store. Apple has recognised Celebrity Cruises as an approved retailer of their products.

Staterooms on the Celebrity Edge

There are literally dozens of different classifications, layouts, and options available for staterooms, as you might expect. I counted a total of 20 different categories, ranging from the Iconic Suite, which is 1,892 square feet in size, to the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda, which is likely to be the most popular for the foreseeable future, and the inner staterooms, of which there are only 12.

There are a total of 25 wheelchair accessible accommodations available, including three deluxe interior staterooms, two Sky Suites, and eight suites with the Infinite veranda.

The following is a picture of my “Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda:”

Two things that I discovered regarding the Infinite Veranda window are the following:

1. It is ultimately under the authority of someone who is on the bridge (so if the weather is poor, someone will lock it closed).

2. I snapped this picture as soon as my window decided to start functioning properly. During the most of my trip, which lasted for two days, it was either broken or controlled from the bridge. It was almost exactly like being inside of an oceanview cabin that had its window permanently closed the entire time.

Review of the Celebrity Edge: Various Dining Options

According to my count, there are a total of 18 restaurants and other dining venues available to passengers on the Celebrity Edge. Seven of those 18 restaurants demand an additional cost for their specialty dining experiences.

Fee-based:

Steakhouse with a Fine Cut of Meat

Le Grand Bistro

Le Petit Chef & Friends

Eden Restaurant

Raw on 5

Magic Carpet is an outside expansion of Raw on 5 with its own menu, and it is located in the same building.

When the ship is docked, guests who book the “Dinner on the Edge” experience can dine on the “Magic Carpet” at the very edge of the ship. Only those currently on board may make reservations.

Dining at no additional cost:

The main eating areas are the Normandie, Tuscan, Cyprus, and the Cosmopolitan.

Spa Café

Eden Café

The Oceanview Café is also known as the Lido Buffet.

Mast Grill

Rooftop Garden Grill

For Suite and Aqua Class Guests:

Luminae

Blu

The bar and lounge scene

In addition to the Martini Bar, which is located in the Grand Atrium and can be seen in the previous image, there are a total of nine other bars and lounges located around the ship. Another feature that has been carried over from Celebrity is one of my favorites—the Sunset Bar, which can be found—where else?—at the very rear of the ship.

Relaxation:

Celebrity offers everything you need to unwind and do absolutely nothing while you’re here.

Reflections Before We Part

This is only a taste of the amenities that will be available to you on the Celebrity Edge cruise ship. For customers over the age of 21, Celebrity created a cruise experience that was almost like something out of a fairytale. No money was spared.

The Celebrity Cruises’ Camp at Sea is an excellent option for families with young children looking to keep their children occupied. Experiments and demonstrations related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will be held alongside culinary creations and arts and crafts.

The staterooms are very spacious, and they give the impression of being much larger due to the modern furniture, light colours, and minimalist style. However, I did not find the mattress to be particularly comfortable. It’s possible that it starts out extra-extra firm so that it can withstand use for a number of years.

With the exception of the fact that my Infinite Verandah window was broken 80% of the time, I absolutely enjoyed staying in my cabin.

It is really challenging to obtain a sense of a new ship when one has only two days to experience what other people spend an entire week exploring.

For instance, the flow of traffic at Oceanview Café has been thoughtfully constructed and is not expected to become overly chaotic during meal times. Additionally, corridors appeared to be significantly larger than they are typically. The designers of the ship did an excellent job with the ratio of guests to available space.

There are just two elevator banks total, one located ahead and the other located aft. At first, I felt it would have been a nice idea to add one additional bank of elevators somewhere in the middle of the ship. On the other hand, these elevators are quite massive! They are quick, it’s simple to figure out which buttons to hit, and each bank has six elevators in it.

The Best Uses for Celebrity Edge Are:

The age bracket from 35 to 50 immediately comes to mind when thinking about the guest demographics. On the other hand, it is such a fascinating vessel that, unless you have a strong aversion to cutting-edge ideas or 21st-century technology, virtually everyone will be awestruck by the things they discover on board.

If you go to Eden, you won’t find any low-key classical string quartets, but you will see hallucinogenic, otherworldly performance art if you there.

If you feel as though you’ve seen and done everything there is to see and do, you don’t mind sailing with 2,900 other guests, and you enjoy spending days at sea on deck in the open air, then the Celebrity Edge might be the finest option for your next cruise vacation. It’s entirely unique.
