Royal Princess

Royal Princess Review & Guide

The Royal Princess was Princess Cruises’ first ship to be designated as a Royal-class vessel. The vessel, which was first put into service in 2012, has the capacity to carry around 3,600 passengers at double occupancy. In 2013, the ship was christened by none other than Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, a member of the royal family in the United Kingdom.

The vessel does an excellent job of combining classic sailing with 21st-century conveniences and amenities. You won’t find any waterparks, go-kart tracks, or any other flashy improvements that are geared toward families here. Instead, Royal Princess places an emphasis on leisure, traditional forms of entertainment, and excellent dining options. That does not mean that it is dull, though, as the daily schedules are packed with plenty of activities that can keep everyone occupied.

Additionally, the ship is equipped with Ocean Medallion technology. A little round disc will take the place of the regular cruise card once you have the Ocean Medallion. However, it is much more than just a substitute for the cruise card. The technology of the Ocean Medallion allows you to locate friends and relatives, allows you to order food and drinks from your cell phone, and provide information on your journey. Additionally, as you approach your stateroom, the cabin doors of the Ocean Medallion will open automatically for you.

In this article, we will go over all there is to know about the Royal Princess cruise ship and provide you with helpful information. Including the ship’s accommodations, dining, and entertainment options.

Amusements and other Active Passages

The ship makes up for the fact that it does not have any water slides or other gimmicks with an astonishing number of activities available. The majority of these are activities that have been around for a long time, such as dancing, trivia, speeches, and demonstrations.

The atrium plays host to a variety of activities and social gatherings. Picture of Ben and David

The Voice of the Ocean is a recent addition to the roster. This event will take place over multiple nights and will consist of a variety of different rounds, just like the original TV programme. The competition kicks off with two nights of karaoke showsdowns, during which the participants are narrowed down to a select group of vocalists. The finalists are then guided through the remainder of the week by Princess’ professional vocalists as they get ready for the final round. The proceedings culminate in a live final that is hosted by the cruise director, during which guests cast votes to choose the victor.

There are unobstructed sightlines available from every vantage point throughout the 925-seat Princess Theatre. Because the theatre is quite tiny given the size of the ship and does, on occasion, become overcrowded, we strongly advise arriving early in order to secure a seat. Original musical creations, as well as a wide range of guest comedians and singers, are presented as part of the entertainment at the theatre.

The Live Princess Show! is the TV Studio for the ship. This venue features live music performances, cooking demonstrations, gaming shows, and late-night comedy. In addition to that, there is occasionally the performance of live music here. Again, this is a really small place, and it does become crowded when there are major events.

The Vista Lounge is the location for many events and dance sessions. Picture of Ben and David

The Vista Lounge may be found toward the back of the ship. This location plays host to dance classes and other events during the day. The lounge is a fantastic venue to see stand-up comedians and live music on evenings and weekends.

The Piazza serves as the ship’s central hub and is encircled on all sides by bars, cafes, and dining establishments. Throughout the course of the day, there will be a variety of activities for you to participate in, including dancing, quizzes, demos, and live music. In the evening, this location plays host to a number of festivities, including a reception for the captains.

The lovely Pizza is the epicentre of all the action. Picture of Ben and David

During the day, a concert or movie is played on the enormous screen that is located on the lido deck. In addition, there is live music and a variety of activities available on the lido deck throughout the day.

When night falls, the entire pool deck is transformed into a venue for “Movies Under the Stars.” It features comfy seats with blankets and pillows, as well as popcorn and pastries.

Throughout the day, the dancing fountains put on brief performances for visitors. Picture of Ben and David

The Princess Watercolor Fantasy Show is put on for guests every evening on the lido deck. There are dancing fountains in the act that discharge water up to a height of 33 feet. It looks like something you’d see in the neon lights of Las Vegas!

The smoke-free casino has slot machines, gambling tables, and a complete bar for patrons to enjoy throughout their stay. The minimum age requirement is 18 years old, and the maximum age is 21.

Bars & Lounges

On board the Royal Princess, there is an abundance of space available for passengers to unwind while sipping their preferred beverage. Even while they all offer the same standard bar menu, some of them are known for their expertise in a particular kind of drink.

The well-known Bellinis bar that serves cocktails. Picture of Ben and David

On Deck 6, you’ll find the popular cocktail bar Bellinis, which is named after the bellini cocktail and serves bellini-inspired cocktails as well as sparkling wines.

Club 6 is the ship’s nightclub and is located on Deck 6. There is a DJ that is on duty every night. The club included a spacious dance floor in addition to a bar.

On Deck 6, you’ll find Churchill’s, a smoking lounge with a limited number of seats and televisions. Cigars are also available for purchase at this location. Although there is not a bar in the lounge, there are bartenders that come in to accept orders for drinks.

Crooners is a piano bar on Deck 7 that has a wide variety of martinis available for patrons to choose from.

Mermaid’s Tail is the pool-side bar for the Lido pool area and is located on Deck 16.

The Princess Casino Bar is located on Deck 6 and is a full-service bar that serves the casino. Open throughout the same hours as Cainso. This bar is typically less busy than the others in the Piazza, making it an ideal location to grab a drink when those other bars are full.

The Princess Live Bar is a tiny bar on Deck 7 that is positioned close to the Princess Live! During the day, the bar also offers a selection of specialised coffees and teas.

Horizon Terrace is home to the Outrigger Bar, which can be found on Deck 16. The bar features cosy seating areas from which patrons can take in the breathtaking panorama of the horizon. The Bloody Mary is the signature drink of this establishment.

The Piazza Bar is located on Deck 5 and is the primary bar that serves the Piazza. It is open throughout the day and into the evening.

The Retreat Pool Bar is located on Deck 16 and serves as the poolside bar for the adults-only pool area.

The SeaView Bar is located on Deck 16 and can be found on the SeaWalk, which is a cantilevered walkway over the edge of the ship. IT features amazing vistas in addition to “flair” bartending, which includes shows with bottle-tossing.

Vines is a wine bar located on Deck 5 that also provides patrons with complimentary tapas and other small snacks in the evening. The pizza restaurant is separated from where the bar is located.

The Wheelhouse Pub, located on Deck 7, is a pub in the British tradition that is close to the Crown Grill. Craft beers, whiskeys, and bourbons are just some of the alcoholic beverages that can be found at this bar. After dinner, patrons often head to the Pub to enjoy the live piano music that is featured there.

The Kids’ Clubs

Families are properly taken care of thanks to the numerous children’s clubs that were developed in collaboration with Discovery Channel. Camp Discovery is a place where children of all ages may have both fun and learn new things. On Deck 17, there are separate areas designated for each of the three age categories that the clubs cater to.

The Treehouse is geared for children aged 3 to 7 and offers both an indoor and outdoor play area for its members. Activities include getting your hands dirty with things like board games and arts and crafts.

The Lodge is geared for children ages 8 to 12 and includes a variety of activities, including competitions, arts and crafts, and fun experiments in science. A recreation of the great outdoors serves as the inspiration for this room, which is furnished with couch areas and arcade games.

The Beach House is designed for adolescents aged 13 to 17, and it features a lounge area with sofas, books, video game consoles, and televisions. Parties with a theme, competitions, and movie evenings are some of the activities.

Outside of the clubs, there are a lot of daily activities that are geared toward families as well. This includes video game play, challenges using paper aeroplanes, and competitions involving building boats out of LEGO bricks.

Recreation and Swimming Pools

Decks 16 and 17 make up the Main Pool Area.

When compared to the size of the ship, the pools are substantially smaller. There are two swimming pools in the primary pool area, one of which is only slightly larger than a plunge pool. In addition, there are two hot tubs located in the primary pool area, as well as two located on the terrace located above the main pool.

The Secluded Place

The “Retreat,” which is reserved exclusively for adults, is available for free use and features a swimming pool, two hot tubs, a bar, and cabanas that may be rented for an additional fee.

A further fee is required to reserve one of the Retreat’s cabanas. Picture of Ben and David

The Protected Area

The Sanctuary can be found right at the very front of the ship. There is a fee associated with using this particular sunbathing spot because it is a private location. It comes with four cabanas, sun loungers that are extremely soft, and light snacks that are brought to you as you relax in the sun.

The Sanctuary can be visited for a half-day fee of $20, a full-day fee of $40, or for a dayly fee of $30 if a pass for the entirety of the trip is purchased. In addition, there is a service fee that amounts to $3 per person and every food delivery.

There is a massage cabana located in the Sanctuary that can be used for individual or couple massages. These come at an additional fee.

The Sanctuary Cabanas offer a high level of discretion and are reminiscent of outdoor studio apartments. They provide you with a spacious sofa, a television, and sun loungers. In addition to that, robes and slippers will be made available to you. The cabanas come equipped with a fully stocked mini-bar that features alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer and wine. You will also be offered food and a welcome drink upon arrival. The Sanctuary Cabana can be rented for anywhere between $140 for a half day and $220 for an entire day.

Health and Leisure Activities

The Royal Princess provides a wealth of chances to maintain a healthy lifestyle and engage in physical activity. The expansive sports arena can be found on Deck 18, which is located at the very rear of the ship. In addition to the typical sporting facilities, this location features a golf driving range. The Lawn Court can be found right next to this on deck 19. Bocce and croquet are just two of the classic games that can be played on this vacation.

The Health and Fitness Center

The fitness centre provides free access to its comprehensive collection of exercise machines. A private aerobics studio can be found in the back of the fitness centre, and members can use it to take exercise lessons for an additional fee. At certain periods of the day, the fitness centre can get quite crowded.

The Lotus Spa (the Spa)

The typical assortment of spa services may be found at the Lotus Spa. In addition to its 18 treatment rooms, the spa includes a barbershop, a relaxation room, and a salon. The two cottages designed specifically for couples are the feature attraction of the treatment area. These include massages for two that are performed side-by-side, followed by an hour of relaxation in a whirlpool bath or sitting room with views of the ocean.

The Enclave is a thermal suite that features a large hydrotherapy pool and serves as the focal point of the spa. Although the suite is not as spacious as those offered by other cruise lines, such as Viking Cruises, passengers will still have access to a diverse selection of activities. There is an additional cost associated with using The Enclave, which begins at $39 per person, each day.

Amenities

The library is located on Deck 7 and is a small, crowded space with a limited collection of books. It is designed with a large table in the centre that can be used for reading or writing. It is strongly suggested that you bring your own books.

Internet Cafe (Deck 5): The Internet Cafe is a small room with a computer that allows access to the internet and printing. It is located just off the Piazza. It is open all the time, with staff available to assist you during the day.

On each deck, there is a launderette that features self-service laundry facilities. The cost of washing and drying your clothes is additional, but you can use the irons for free.

Shopping

The big photo and video gallery is located on Deck 8 and features touch displays that allow you to examine your photos taken by the ship’s photographers. In addition to that, they have a selection of DVDs, photography equipment, and gifts associated with photography. Because the photo gallery is typically highly crowded on the final night of cruises, we strongly suggest that you purchase your images well in advance of the final evening.

The Shops of Princess may be found on Deck 7 and resemble a shopping mall in layout. These stores carry the typical goods, such as duty-free items, cosmetics, fashion, and jewellery, in addition to Princess-branded merchandise.

The Fine Art Gallery is located on Deck 7 and features art that is available for purchase as well as art auctions during the cruise.

A little shop on Deck 5 called Celebrations that rents tuxedos and sells party supplies, gifts for special occasions, and tuxedos.

Dining

The dining options aboard the Royal Princess are quite remarkable due to the ship’s extensive selection of restaurants. Outside of the usual Main Dining Rooms, there are also a large number of other featured dining alternatives. The International Cafe and Alfredo’s Pizza are two of our go-to restaurants since they serve the tastiest pizza at sea.

The cuisine that is provided, particularly in the Main Dining Rooms, is consistently of a high quality in our experience. comparable to some of the more upscale luxury cruise lines. However, we are consistently disappointed with the room service, which makes staying in impossible to plan around.

We highly recommend going to one of the specialty restaurants in order to have an experience that is truly one of a kind. These include Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria and the Crown Grill, amongst others. Although they come at an additional cost, we believe they offer a very good value for the money.

Meals Are Complimentary

Accommodation

When compared to cabins on prior Princess Ships, those found on the Royal Princess are more compact. Especially noticeable is the reduction in width of the balconies. Despite the fact that they are on the smaller side, they have a thoughtful construction and are comfy.

The majority of the cabins have their own personal balcony. It is unusual for a ship of this size to not have any accommodations with an oceanview, as is the case with the Royal Princess.

The Princess Luxury Bed is the standout feature of the staterooms on the Royal Princess. The bed, which was designed by a sleep expert named Dr. Michael Breus and features luxury sheets and bedding, is exceptionally comfy.

Types of Cabins

Every cabin comes equipped with the following amenities: two twin beds or one queen bed, a small armchair, an interactive TV with a broad selection of free on-demand material, a refrigerator, hairdryer, digital safe, and complimentary room service 24 hours a day.

Princess Cruises are distinguished from other cruise lines by the presence of a huge open-concept wardrobe area. This is the option that we like because it provides you with more space for hanging things; nevertheless, it does make the cabin feel more restricted.

The bathrooms in the ordinary cabins are on the smaller side, but they come equipped with a spacious shower and the essential necessities (shampoo and shower gel). The hated and sticky shower curtain is one of the drawbacks of using the shower. The toilet area features an abundance of shelves as well as mirrors.

Inside Cabin

On the Royal Princess, these are the cabins with the lowest prices. They are quite compact, but comfortable, and just right for you if you don’t want to spend a lot of time in your room.

There is either one queen-size bed or two twin beds in the room. Because they include two pull-down mattresses, certain cabins have the capacity to sleep up to four people. In addition, there is a comfortable recliner, a vanity unit that doubles as a writing table, and a walk-in closet area. Each of the interior cabins has a total area of 161 ft2 (15 m2) and can accommodate a maximum of 4 guests. Accessible indoor cabins are 240 ft²/22 m2.

Standard Cabins with a Balcony

Even though they have more space than an interior cabin, the balcony cabins on most cruise lines are still much smaller. Only the chair from the desk is available as a place to relax; there is neither a couch nor an armchair. If you want to watch television but don’t want to sit in bed, this might not be the best way to accomplish it. The size of the balcony has significantly shrunk as well. Take into consideration that the balcony furniture makes the space feel somewhat claustrophobic.

We strongly suggest that you upgrade to a Mini-Suite if you spend a lot of time lounging in your cabin or making advantage of the balcony that comes with your accommodation.

Each of the cabins has a living space of 180 square feet or 17 square metres, one queen bed or two twin beds, a desk chair, a vanity unit or writing table, and a walk-in closet room. On the four square foot (four square metres) balcony, there are two chairs and a table.

Deluxe Balcony Cabins

The Deluxe Balconies are significantly more spacious, measuring 233 ft2 / 21.5 m2, and boasting larger balconies of 41 ft2 in total. In addition, they provide some of the conveniences that are available in a Mini-Suite stateroom. Such include more luxurious toiletries, bathrobes, and linens of a higher quality.

They also include a compact sofa that converts into a single bed when the need arises. On the sofa, there is room for one person to sit in comfort.

Accessible Balcony Cabins

Accessible Balcony The accessibility of the cabins has been improved for persons with physical impairments. They include a door that is more spacious as well as access to the bathroom and balcony without the need to climb any steps. The primary cabin area has been upgraded to accommodate wheelchairs with additional space, lower hanging rails, and lower storage.

The bathroom is a huge wet room that features lower sinks, adjustable mirrors, and a shower seat in the shower in addition to an adjustable handheld showerhead.

Mini-Suites

The size in a Mini-Suite is between 245 and 335 square feet (22 and 31 square metres), making it significantly larger than a balcony cabin. These have room for up to four passengers at a time.

They feature a living room that is furnished with a couch, a vanity unit or writing table, a coffee table, and a television. The bedroom space, which is partitioned off by a curtain, can accommodate either two twin beds or one queen bed, and it has a very large television. The bathrooms each have a shower and a bathtub, in addition to other high-end bathroom facilities.

These staterooms offer a high level of comfort and have ample space. Remember that the sleeping area is simply separated from the living space by a curtain, even though they can accommodate up to four travellers. It’s possible that two adults should not share this. In addition, the size of the balcony is comparable to that of a conventional balcony cabin.

Mini-Suites with Club Class Amenities

The Club Class mini-suites are similar to the mini-suite cabins, but they are located in a more desirable area and come with additional perks. These include the use of the exclusive Club Class dining area in the main dining room, priority embarkation and disembarkation, a half bottle of red wine and a half bottle of white wine in your stateroom upon arrival, evening canapés upon request, and upgraded bathrobes in the cabin. Other perks include priority embarkation and disembarkation, 1/2 bottle of red wine and 1/2 bottle of white wine in your stateroom upon arrival, and evening cana

A more extensive menu as well as food prepared at each table may be found in the Club Class dining room. If you are travelling with other passengers who are not in the Club Class cabin, those passengers will not be permitted to join you for dinner in the Club Class dining area.

Suites

The Royal Princess has three different types of suites: penthouse suites, which are located on deck 14, premium suites, which are located on decks 9 through 12, and owners suites, which are located on decks 8 through 15.

The suites range in size from 440 square feet (41 square metres) to 682 square feet (64 square metres) and have the capacity to accommodate up to four guests.

A curtain separates the living area from the bedroom space in each of the suites’ two rooms: the living area and the bedroom. Again, this might not be desirable to adults who are sharing a room and would rather have their own space.

The living area is furnished with a double couch bed, a coffee table, an armchair, a side table, a writing desk, a kitchenette with a stocked mini-bar, and a dining table with room for four people. The bedroom features either two twin beds or one queen bed, a vanity unit, and an en suite marble bathroom with a bathtub and a shower that are kept separate.

Each suite comes with its own private balcony that is furnished with two lounge chairs, a dining table that seats four people, as well as a smaller table and chair.

What Exactly Is Included?

The majority of forms of entertainment and activities are offered at no cost. The vast majority of the facilities, such as swimming pools, fitness centres, and children’s clubs, are complimentary. The Sanctuary, excursions, spa services, specialty restaurants, and drinks are all available for an additional cost.

Fellow Passengers

A diverse range of vacationers choose to sail on the Royal Princess. In general, the attendees are of a more older age, and there are many couples present. However, you can find a good number of multi-generational families, especially during the times when schools are not in session.

It should be noted that this is exactly how Princess’s clients prefer it. The cruise line caters to customers that prefer a more conventional style of sailing than what is offered on the boats of the majority of other big-ship lines. These customers range in age from middle-aged couples to retirees and multigenerational families.

Although North Americans make up the vast majority of cruisers, you’ll also run into a good number of Brits, Australians, and New Zealanders on your travels.
