Azamara Journey Cruise Ship Review

We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to the Canary Islands on a cruise with Azamara Journey, despite the fact that some of the islands’ volcanoes were still active and new species were appearing. For me, this would be an entirely new travel schedule.

Azamara eventually recovered from the pandemic and was taken over by new owners. I was curious to see if there had been any adjustments made to the traditional atmosphere and level of service provided by Azamara.

This destination-focused Canary Islands cruise, the majority of whose passengers would hail from the United Kingdom, would undoubtedly be an extraordinary adventure.

Review of the Azamara Journey Ship

For some reason, the Canary Islands have always struck me as a Caribbean–style vacation destination for Europeans. A transatlantic flight, followed by a layover, and then additional hours to get to the islands seemed to be a bit too far for those coming from the United States who were looking for a quick escape.

Gran Canaria island serves as the embarkation point for a significant number of cruises, despite the fact that a new flight route connects JFK with the island of Tenerife.

Azamara, which had previously been under the umbrella of Royal Caribbean but was recently spun off into its own company, is reportedly doing quite well thanks to the private equity firm Sycamore Group’s funding. On board, the crew members with whom we had conversations appeared to be in agreement that they had gained greater authority to make choices on behalf of the ship.

The majority of Azamara’s recent operational adjustments are a direct result of the company’s decision to continue sailing during the COVID-19 outbreak. These adjustments were made in an effort to keep guests and crew members safe.

The passage of time, together with the introduction of the custom-built Azamara Onward in the spring of 2022, will inform us what details might differentiate Azamara’s signature environment from that found below Sycamore.

A trip around the Canary Islands

Our itinerary aboard the Azamara Journey included a seven-day excursion across the Canary Islands, beginning and ending in Gran Canaria. The trip only lasted eight days, but it stopped at six ports spread throughout five different islands; as a result, there were no sea days.

COVID-19 Protocols

A passenger must be in possession of a number of negative COVID-19 test results before they may join the Azamara Journey. Passengers are required to have a stack of relevant documents in their possession prior to boarding the ship.

The first step in getting ready for a cruise when there is a pandemic is for passengers to complete their boarding documents at home, which require them to show confirmation that they have been vaccinated.

In order to enter Spain if you are travelling through the Canary Islands, which are under the authority of Spain, you are need to fill out a form that is issued by Spain’s Ministry of Health.

Required Documents Include Passports and Health Forms

During the journey from the ship to the dock in Gran Canaria, passengers are required to provide their passports as well as this health form, their boarding documents, and their vaccine card at a number of different checkpoints along the way.

We were able to avoid waiting in large queues at passport control by travelling through Madrid on the way back to the United States until we were able to utilise our Global Entry cards.

A negative result on Azamara’s in-house quick COVID-19 test is necessary in order to embark on one of the cruise line‘s itineraries. After boarding, passengers are expected to wear masks in all public sections of the ship, with the exception of the dining and bar rooms while they are actively eating and drinking.

As a result of pandemic protocols, embarkation has evolved, and the changes may be permanent. Longer wait periods in the hot sun with nowhere to sit as a result of some of the changes, including increased paperwork and health checks.

While others, such as less formal lifeboat drills in small groups immediately upon embarkation — with Champagne! — were welcome adjustments, others, such as less formal lifeboat drills in large groups immediately upon embarkation.

After our lifejacket demonstrator had finished giving all of the essential safety instructions, an attendant hurried us to our cabin as quickly as possible. In addition to the standard pamphlets and other welcome items, our room also contained two blue fabric masks with the Azamara insignia embroidered on them.

The attendees were encouraged to wear masks, which we thought was a lovely touch and a wonderful touch overall.

INSIDER KNOW-HOW: We were given the instruction to disinfect our hands before each meal. As a result, you should take care to keep your hands clean without overly drying them out. A hand lotion of high quality can really save your life.

Initial Reactions to the Azamara Experience

Two years ago, we sailed with Azamara aboard the Azamara Pursuit, which was the newest ship in the fleet at the time. This time, in preparation for Christmas, the entirety of the ship was decked up in decorations.

The fun and cheerful ambiance was brought to by the numerous gingerbread houses that were made by teams from across the ship. These houses included a village complete with a toy railway that was operational. Metallic embellishments were used to maintain the event’s sophisticated air.

In spite of the change in time and seasons, stepping aboard Journey had the familiarity of returning home. This was a deliberate attempt to create a vibe that was practically identical across the fleet of three (and soon to be four) ships.

We got the impression that we had been on this ship before, and it was wherever we went—from the impressive staircase to the main dining room, from the traditional library to the pool deck.

But it takes work to achieve uniformity, and the modifications that were originally scheduled to be implemented aboard the ship during a dry dock in the summer of 2021 will now have to take place in December when there are passengers onboard.

It was clear that there were problems with the supply chain.

Due to problems with the supply chain, which affected many different businesses during the epidemic, the Den on Deck 5 of the ship did not have the appropriate carpeting, and the important passenger areas did not have new wallpaper.

During our first day onboard, we didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary because construction crews were working silently throughout the hallways. They moved quickly to remove the wallpaper and then replace it with brand new fabric of superior quality imported from Japan.

Although the lingering scent was a touch distracting, the fact that the noise wasn’t much of an issue was a pleasant surprise.

Other visible improvements are the direct result of pandemic precautions, while some new, high-quality touches are the result of capital being infused into the organisation.

Club Veranda Stateroom

Our room on the Azamara ship was number 7079, which was a regular balcony room. Sailing through the Canary Islands in such a place was really comfortable. There is a total of 175 square feet of space, including a balcony that is 40 square feet in size, so there will be plenty of room for two guests.

The size of the balcony furniture in an Azamara Veranda cabin is one of our favourite aspects of these staterooms. With enough chairs and a spacious table, enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the balcony or a glass of wine and some cheese as the sun goes down is a breeze.

The extremely cramped bathroom is still our least favourite aspect of the accommodation. Even though it served its purpose, it was impossible for us to picture our 6’7″ cruise director fitting in any way, shape, or form into the itty-bitty shower that had a shower curtain that stuck to the walls.

Due to the fact that there was no room at the sink and only three little shelves, we were forced to store many of our hair and makeup supplies on the desk or in a bag that hung from the door, which was a significant improvement in terms of storage capacity.

The inclusion of terrycloth robes and slippers is often considered normal in cabins of this class. We didn’t even notice the tote bag that so many of the other people were carrying, despite the fact that we were given the leather card holder, which is always a pleasant touch. Nevertheless, in comparison to other cruise lines that we are familiar with, the little cruise line is far more liberal with trademark products.

The Amenities of Your Stateroom

The rooms have electrical outlets that are typical in both the United States and Europe. Additionally, there are USB ports built into the bedside reading lamps. Because technological charging equipment become obsolete very rapidly, you need to make sure that you have chargers that can be plugged into either of these. There is a drawer located next to the desk that contains blow dryers for your hair.

The beds may either be pushed together to form a queen-sized bed or divided into two twins. We found the bed linens and pillows to be of a satisfactory level of comfort. A wide mirror, a desk with a chair, and a sofa with a tiny circular table are some of the additional features included in this cabin. A number of channels, ranging from local and worldwide news to movies and other entertainment options, are available on a flat-screen television.

Getting Our Stateroom into Some Kind of Order

Two buddies who overpacked for a single week were able to cram everything — just barely — into a few shelves and a small closet despite the fact that there is a limited amount of closet space. Be note that there is only a certain amount of space available in the hanger, depending on how much you intend to bring.

A bar of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion with a fresh perfume of aloe vera and green tea may be found in the bathroom. Other toiletries have the same fragrance. There are still some Elemis products available in the more luxurious rooms.

The construction of water refill stations around the ship was still in the process of being completed, which caused our hotel director and lifelong Azamara employee Tony Markey a great deal of frustration.

Water, Water, Everywhere, But There’s One Thing…

Unfortuitously, this meant that in the interim, water was served to guests in bottles made of plastic, which is now considered inappropriate. There was plenty of water available, not only in our cabins but also before and throughout any shore excursions we went on. Azamara’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact have suffered a little setback due to its inability to move beyond the use of plastic.

Azamara features washers and dryers for self-service, which can come in handy on lengthy journeys; however, you will need to purchase detergent. The washing area is accessible from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM and can be found directly across from cabin number 7076.

TIP FROM THE INDUSTRY Bring your own bottle that you can reuse and drink the water that is offered on the cruise; even if the water is served in a plastic bottle, you’ll still have extra water with you and can ask the ship to recycle the bottles.

Our Room Steward

It is never an easy task to clean up after two women, but despite how courteous our room steward was, he also appeared a bit scattered at times. Each night, we brought our own bottles of port that we had purchased on a port call in Portugal so that we could drink wine in the comfort of our cabin.

But in spite of this unmistakable indication that clean wine glasses should be provided, we were required to replace our own each night by making a slightly perplexed phone call to room service and stating, “No, not the wine; just the glass.”

The same reasoning extended to my utilisation of a supplementary duvet. Each night, the additional comforter was stored away, and each night, I had to lug it out again, all the while hoping that he would figure out that I liked having an excessive number of blankets on the bed.

Our bedroom was immaculately clean at all times. On the other hand, intuitive service, such as making the bed with an additional blanket or having wine glasses ready to go each evening when we arrived onboard, would have added that extra touch of personalization.

How to Make the Most of Your Meal Times

Despite the fact that there were consistent shifts in the manner in which guests were served while the pandemic was ongoing, service levels remained outstanding; this was something that we noticed in especially on our very first Azamara cruise.

Although every member of the staff made a sincere attempt to enhance our trip, the Discoveries Restaurant waiters Roston (“from Boston”) and Aaron may have been the ones who had the most significant impact on us.

They seemed to relish in their profession no matter the country, and that requires expertise. Humorous and attentive, they struck a touch with the youthful American hearts that we had even though they were not Americans themselves.

Complimentary Food and Drink Options

Onboard the Azamara Journey, there are three restaurants that do not charge any additional fees in addition to the room service. Every restaurant provides its patrons with a comprehensive range of options to choose from.

Every night has a new style of food as its inspiration for the night’s theme, such as Italian and French. The buffet area and the main dining room each have their own distinct aesthetic.

We thought that some of the themes were a bit unexpected at times. The restaurant decided to serve food from Great Britain to a ship full of people from that country rather than focusing on the regional cuisine.

However, the highlight of the night was Indian night. When our wait staff found out how upset we were over missing it during dinner at Prime C, they made sure to order us a full Indian feast for the following evening so that we could make up for our loss.

This was a thoughtful addition that left an impression on us. The quality of the food was extremely exceptional, and the service was top-notch throughout the entire experience.

Discoveries Restaurant

Lunch was only offered on the day when we were stopped overnight in Funchal. The restaurant was open for breakfast (from 8:00 to 9:30) and supper (from 6:00 to 9:00). Discoveries, located on Deck 5, is the ship’s primary dining room, and it is a spacious and elegant area.

The ship’s formal dining area is spacious enough to seat the vast majority of people all at once. Due to the smaller number of passengers on our voyage, the dining area was only utilised for fifty percent of its total capacity.

On a ship full of Europeans, we discovered that dinner at six o’clock was strangely quiet yet delightful if we required an early night – the majority of passengers arrived for dinner at eight.

The use of quick response (QR) codes, which are now prevalent in land-based restaurants as a way to minimise customer contact, was available on the daily programme and around the ship to see menus or make reservations; however, we discovered that neither of these were required.

We were never made to feel uncomfortable and were always given physical menus.

Options for Meals That Are Usual in a Day

Like many of the other meals onboard, the options for breakfast were worldwide, and the dishes were a little bit unexpected. For example, you might start with a Mediterranean salad or an Asian chicken and rice congee, and then move on to Arabic shakshuka or asparagus Benedict.

Pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, and other traditional morning fare such as these were, of course, among the many options that could be provided upon request.

Every evening, the Discoveries menu presented us with an appetising selection of appetisers, main dishes, and desserts to choose from. In addition, there was a menu that was constantly accessible, which featured staples such as steak, salmon, and Caesar salad.

Every evening, diners had the option of ordering a whole meal based on the theme of the day being featured by the chef. On Indian night, samosas and butter chicken were so delicious that it was difficult to say no to them. On other occasions, we devoured the fish with great pleasure. The soups, like a minestrone or gazpacho from Spain, were always really tasty.

Windows Café

When we wanted to have our meals outside, we went to Windows, which is a buffet located on Deck 9 and is available for breakfast from 7:00 to 10:00, lunch from 12:00 to 2:00, and dinner from 6:30 to 8:30. The fact that you are unable to serve yourself at the buffet is a restriction placed there for reasons relating to health and safety. This makes the buffet significantly less convenient.

We made the decision to sit near the rear of the ship each morning and evening so that we could take in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding islands.

At the front desk, we placed our orders for the energizer shots and freshly squeezed drinks. After that, we selected a selection of fruit, pastries, or hot items from the menu. Last but not least, we secured some outdoor seats and had coffee brought to our table.

The same pattern repeated itself for lunch, but without the juice bar.

At night, Windows transformed into something resembling a bistro, and we really hope that this continues. We had a wonderful time eating out on the balcony and delighting in a menu that was different from the one offered in the main dining room, such as South American cuisine.

The Porch and Patio

The Patio, which is located poolside aboard Azamara Journey, features a grill and serves as a casual lunch alternative. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of options, which included burgers (including salmon, veggie, lamb, beef, and turkey varieties), brochettes, soups, Buffalo wings, nachos, and sandwiches such as pork loin with sauteed onions and feta on a baguette or grouper panini with salsa and Chinese cabbage.

When we inquired about the Swirl & Top soft-serve ice cream machines, we discovered that they were not functioning properly; however, the Windows Café provided us with ice cream sundaes made with hard ice cream in their place.

Delivery to Your Room

The room service offered onboard the Azamara Journey is complimentary, and it is available around the clock. In the meantime that we were getting ready for dinner, our go-to order was a cheese platter and two glasses of rose, although the restaurant also serves sandwiches, desserts, and even pizza.

A room tag is given to you in your room so that you can make your breakfast selections and then hang it on the door of your stateroom the night before you want your breakfast delivered. There is no fee for the continental breakfast alternatives or the hot breakfast meals such as steak and eggs that are also offered.

We discovered that our breakfast would regularly arrive ahead of schedule, which was preferable to arriving late but was still a bit of a rude awakening.

The Specialty Dining Chef’s Table Dinners are offered throughout the voyage, although there can only be about a dozen or so guests seated at each dinner.

This cuisine and wine paired supper consists of six courses and costs $95 per person. It is an immersive experience. In most establishments, the event is hosted by the executive chef and takes place at a banquet table located in one of the speciality dining rooms.

Guests are required to maintain a minimum distance of two tables between themselves and one another throughout the pandemic. Themes could be drawn from French, Italian, or even Arabic culture.

In addition, Azamara Journey was testing out a brand-new event known as the Explorer’s Dinner, which was hosted once during each trip and cost $65 per guest.

This seemed like a really good deal to me, considering that the location was completely decked out for the occasion, and the meal consisted of six dishes, each of which was based on the exploration of a different part of the region. There was no provision made for individualised wine pairings.

During our voyage, we celebrated the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon with a feast that included garlic shrimp and paella.

There is the option to purchase dining packages that include several types of gastronomic experiences, such as packages that include both specialist restaurants and the Chef’s Table.

A Primer on the Letter C

Both Prime C and Aqualina, two of Azamara’s speciality dining restaurants, have temporarily been converted into two rotating dining rooms that share a same menu. In the event that you are not staying in one of our suites, the cover charge for specialty dining is $30 per person.

Following the commencement of Azamara’s operations, the kitchen and wait staff were often only required to serve one or two couples in each restaurant. This was due to the low number of passengers.

One speciality venue is open each night of the cruise to offset the all-too-quiet atmosphere, but it serves a mixed cuisine that was prepared in the kitchens of both the steakhouse and the Italian restaurant. We were told that this menu is a “best of the best” selection from both establishments.

Reviewing the menu is something you should do before going to dinner, even though several customers seemed to enjoy the mix-and-match aspect of the restaurant. The options can be rather daunting.

On the left, denoted by the colour red, there are three appetisers, four soups or salads, and five main courses from Prime C. On the right, denoted by the colour blue, there are the same number of options but with an Italian focus from Aqualina.

During our evening of specialised dining, we sat in Prime C and ordered a variety of meals, including crab and lobster cakes from the steakhouse menu and a braised beef cheek in Chianti sauce that was actually from Aqualina. These dishes were served to us in the steakhouse.

Although not all of the sweets, including the world-famous tiramisu, were offered, the service was exceptional. However, the cook who prepared the steak of a fellow patron and the drawn-out nature of a dinner at this establishment dissuaded us from returning. Instead, we decided to go with Discoveries because of its constantly changing cuisine and the friendly service it provides.

Are the Beverages on Azamara Included in the Fare?

Your cruise fee already includes a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, soft drinks, and select cocktails. On Deck 5, you’ll find the Mosaic Café, which serves speciality coffees and has dairy milk options available. These coffees might well be our favourite thing about the ship.

The freshly squeezed juices served at Windows café in the morning are a treat to drink (the smoothies were a bit of a miss). Throughout the duration of your cruise, you can sip on luxury spirits and wines by purchasing one of the drink packages, which come at an additional cost.

In-Seat and Onboard Entertainment and Activities

When a cruise is comprised completely of days spent docked, the vast majority of guests spend their time ashore from dawn till night.

Our cruise director, the author, performer, and former figure skater Eric de Gray, served as the cohesive force behind each and every act and event that took place on the ship. Even his onboard announcements were funny, delivered with his trademark snark, and his headlining presentation almost had us crying with laughter.

Activities Conducted Outside

On Deck 9, there is one swimming pool and two whirlpools, all of which were utilised by a sizable number of vacationers at various times throughout the day.

You can borrow books on the honour system or read in the library, which is located on Deck 10 and is as quiet as a mausoleum. The ceiling features a lovely mural, making this space an absolutely stunning option for some afternoon relaxation.

On board the Azamara Journey, you’ll find not one but two shops. While the Journey Boutique specialised in high-end apparel, jewellery, and accessories, Indulgences offered the normal duty-free selection of alcoholic beverages, perfumes, and cigarettes.

Nightly get-togethers are organised for members of the LGBTQ community, Friends of Bill W., and singles and those travelling alone.

Visit the dining reservations desk located in the Windows Café for some insider information. Inquire around to obtain a list of the many dinner themes that will be offered at each venue over the entire cruise. You will be able to make advance preparations (and not miss Indian night!)

The Day Spa

During our first day on the ship, we went on a tour and learned that many of the crew members who worked at the Sanctum Spa would not be able to accompany us on the Azamara Journey. This was because of the limits that COVID-19 had in their country.

We had a wonderful day in the spa, despite the fact that they were understaffed (yes, plural). The staff was really helpful and professional at the same time.

My travelling companion’s luggage was lost by the airline, and she had to board the ship without the expensive hair products that she had worked so hard to acquire.

The spa manager did not skip a beat and immediately retrieved every Elemis product that she could possibly require. Even though there were only a few therapists available, we were able to get a total of four treatments, one of which being my very first facial. All of them were highly praised by us.

Discounts and Services Offered by Spas

Onboard specials for the spa were available the entire journey. You were eligible for a discount on subsequent treatments after you had a treatment booked. There was a price range of $129 to $199 for facials, and the price range of $149 to $299 for massages.

In addition, The Sanctum provides services for males including teeth whitening and shaves, as well as hair, nail, and waxing care for both men and women. The spa was normally open from eight in the morning until ten at night.

The Sanctum Terrace is a beautiful and peaceful place that can be found at the front of the ship, just outside the spa. In addition, there is a thalassotherapy pool with a few lounge chairs.

Should You Invest in a Spa Membership?

There were options for daily and weekly passes available. However, we were able to take advantage of this area both before and after our spa treatments by spending some time here. If you are able to make it there at the right time, it is the ideal spot to enjoy the sunset. Even though the terrace is open until eight in the evening, we did not see anyone else while we were there.

Due to the fact that many of the spa staff members who were supposed to teach fitness classes were absent, aboard classes like Pilates were cancelled. The exercise facility, on the other hand, was available for use, and both self-directed workouts and stretching were encouraged.

Masks were necessary for entry, and there was a maximum of eight guests permitted inside at one time.

Daytime pursuits and events

Card games, shuffleboard, small trivia sessions, or a walk around the jogging track are just some of the daily diversions that are available on an itinerary that covers so many ports of call.

On the other hand, we did notice that there were quite a few people from the United Kingdom onboard, and the majority of their time was spent lazing around in the sun by the pool.

We were dissatisfied with the few opportunities for enrichment, with the exception of a few random dance courses and perhaps a tutorial on how to take better photos with a smartphone.

The guests were required to pay an additional price in order to take part in the wine and food pairing exercise; nonetheless, we did receive a lot of nice feedback regarding the activity.

Enrichment Lectures

Instead than focusing on the limited number of shore excursions that were available, we were interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the destinations’ histories and cultures thanks to the fact that our cruise line advertises “complete destination immersion.”

The low number of attendees forced the postponement of a talk that was going to be about the Spanish Civil War. We focus more of the blame on the activities personnel for their selection of enrichment topics rather than on the passengers themselves.

We were still permitted to dock on La Palma despite the fact that it has an active volcano. Some facts on volcanoes, specifically on the development of the Canary Islands, appeared to be a more pertinent and timely topic to discuss.

Insider Tip: If you don’t feel like going on a full-day excursion, you may make an advance online reservation for afternoon tea at Reid’s Palace (in Funchal). There is some elevation gain involved, but the route can be covered on foot and reservations can be made independently. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays only between the hours of 3:30 and 4:30.

Evening Entertainment

The atmosphere on board the Azamara Journey might be described as laid back and even drowsy at times. Even if there were some very unforgettable forms of entertainment, the evening plans often started and ended with something as basic as a nightcap.

In every location where food is served, there is also a bar. The Cabaret Lounge, Mosaic Café, Pool Bar, the Living Room, and the Spirits in the Den were some of the many bars that were available.

Make sure you locate the Sunset Bar on Deck 9 aft; it’s the ideal spot for a drink as the ship sails away from port. This bar provides delectable tropical drinks on its own one-of-a-kind drink menu, which is available to customers. We bemoan the fact that we did not find earlier.

Where to Find Musical Performances in Real Time

At night, there is a wide selection of live music performed all throughout the ship, which is the perfect accompaniment to your beverage. During our trip, we had a good time listening to East Pearl. They put in triple time by playing dance hits on the Deck 10 Living Room, first before dinner, then later in the evening and late into the night.

A pianist used to perform in the area surrounding Spirits tavern. Every night in the Living Room was a live performance of Latin music by the Journey Orchestra. Tapas were served on individual plates.

You may be able to listen in on a karaoke performance in the Living Room lounge if you keep a particularly sharp eye out for it.

Even though there was a limit on the number of people who could fit inside the Cabaret Lounge, which served as the ship’s theatre, seating was seldom an issue for the evening performances. The singers and dancers were tasked with performing in a way that would appeal to a diverse audience.

There was a lot of ABBA and shows like “Four on the Floor.” It goes without saying that there was a lot of ABBA.

Sasha Kovalavin played a classical piano performance, and my wife and I went to hear him play. We had a wonderful time listening to his talent, as well as his delightful commentary.

Because of COVID, Azamara was forced to call off two of its major events: White Night and AzAmazing Evening. However, thanks to the dogged determination and ingenuity of Azamara’s hotel personnel, activity staff, and crew, guests were still able to enjoy the festivities.

Bright Night was a variation of the deck party that was confused because of crowd capacities and then terrible weather. White Night was temporarily renamed Bright Night.

The primary performance took place in the theatre. The guests were urged to dance, but they were not required to wear masks.

In a similar vein, it was impossible to host hundreds of visitors at a single location in the area for the AzAmazing Evening event. Instead, Azamara Journey organised a celebration centred on the destination.

This included a performance by a quartet known as Paganini while they were playing by the pool, as well as a Spanish meal in the Windows Café.

The crowd aboard the Azamara enjoyed the classical concert that had humorous interludes very much. There were two different showtimes and two different seatings available.

Instead than focusing on Spain as a whole, the vacation spot highlighted the one-of-a-kind customs of the Canary Islands. On the other hand, it would have been enjoyable to sample additional local dishes and beverages in the locations we went to.

Perhaps there were too many obstacles to overcome in terms of logistics for it to be practical.

Who Is Joining Us?

A typical Azamara passenger is an experienced retired couple who has travelled extensively. In addition, the tiny ship cruise line pulls in a significant percentage of repeat customers who are dedicated to the brand.

On our trip to the Canary Islands, there were a total of 329 passengers, representing an amazing 19 different countries, which is roughly half of the ship’s capacity. The majority of the passengers on board were from the United Kingdom. Approximately ten percent of Danes.

There were only 15 people from the United States, 11 Germans, and 10 Macedonians on board. In addition to that, a diverse collection of over a dozen other countries were represented.

Conclusions and Reflections on the Azamara Journey

Azamara has, for the most part, abandoned the more official appellation of Azamara Club Cruises, but the cruise line has kept its clubby camaraderie in all the best ways.

It is not the most intimate cruise line, the most modern cruise line, or the most opulent cruise line. The on-board service exudes a sense of warmth and sincerity that is difficult to place but simple to recognise. This is despite the fact that its origins are difficult to define.

Even though there has been a worldwide epidemic and a change of ownership, Azamara has managed to keep its signature offerings and its exceptional personnel. This includes cosy surroundings, delicious food, a welcoming attitude, and access to a variety of breathtaking locations.
