Why You Should Choose To River Cruise
I was just in Paris recently for the CLIA River Cruise Conference 2018, which was a lot of fun. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about river cruising and to tour a number of river vessels docked on the Seine. Additionally, we spent the night on Avalon Waterways Tapestry II, which was a highlight of the trip. This was my first genuine experience of river cruising, and as such, it has provided me with a genuine understanding of the appeal and draw of river cruising.
River cruising, much like the cruise industry as a whole, is experiencing a renaissance right now, and as a result, the industry is seeing massive growth. The river cruise sector experienced a growth of 21% in comparison to the previous year, and there are presently 19 new ships scheduled to be delivered in 2019. There are many different reasons for this, some of which being people looking for new experiences, the freedom to do what they want and when they want, excellent value, and travellers preferring to be in the center of a location.
I’ve put up a list of the top five reasons why I think a river cruise is the perfect choice for your next vacation.
Immersive experiences
The emphasis placed on becoming completely immersed in a destination is at the very heart of river cruising. Imagine instead going from one river city to another rather than taking a cruise on the ocean. The destinations themselves are the primary emphasis of the trip, despite the opulence of the ships. You may look forward to spending each day on a ship that will take you to a new and interesting location, giving you the opportunity to spend more time exploring the local culture and taking in the sights.
Expect to be able to stroll directly out into the hustle and bustle of some of the most well-known destinations in the world when you get off of your river ship, as river ships typically dock in the middle of large towns. You may anticipate that on a typical day you will go to some historic sites, try out some of the local cuisine and markets, maybe go on an adventure through a vineyard, or get to know the local culture and find out how they live. Or, if you are staying the night in a port, you might want to disembark and check out the local nightlife instead of staying on the ship. That piques your interest, doesn’t it?
In addition to that, it is an extremely humiliating experience. When you are sailing, you have the opportunity to simply relax on the stunning meandering rivers and take in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding environment.
The design, the luxuries, and the overall quality
River ships are comparable to boutique hotels in that not only the ship and its public areas, but also, and perhaps most importantly, the cabins themselves, have been designed with a great deal of attention to detail. These are high-end items that, for the most part, put their ocean relatives in a poor light. I believe that Viking has some of the most elegantly designed cabins on the market today. The room is wide and stylish, with huge windows that bring plenty of natural light into the space, comfy beds and linen, heated bathroom floors, and high-end bath goods. The design is influenced by scandinavian aesthetics.
If living in a suite is more your style, river cruises feature accommodations that meet your needs. You can look forward to unrivaled extravagance in the form of exceptionally carefully thought areas, opulent facilities, and personalized butler service. If you want to get an idea of river suites, have a look at some of the photographs below that were taken on board the river cruise ships operated by Uniworld, Emerald, and Scenic.
Because of their limited space, river ships have had to develop innovative solutions to the challenges of passenger comfort. Emerald and Avalon are two companies that are good examples of this since they have considered ways to bring the passenger closer to the experience. Whether this involves glass doors that completely retract into the wall or panoramic windows that transform into balconies.
People have the misconception that because they are on a river cruise, there won’t be any facilities available to them. This couldn’t be further from the truth, since new ships come equipped with an extensive array of amenities like as full balconies, Wi-Fi, different dining options, fitness centers, spas, swimming pools, and extensive art collections. Take a gander at the pool that is located on board Emerald cruises. It is located in the stern of the ship and has a view of the wake; try to picture yourself relaxing here while taking in the picturesque scenery of the Danube as it passes by. This space is put to good use, since it is cleverly transformed into a quaint cinema as the sun goes down.
Amazing value
The incredible bang for the buck is the one thing that jumps out at me regarding river cruising. When compared to other types of vacations, the cost of a river cruise may be more, but you have to remember that practically everything is included in the price. You may anticipate flights, luxurious accommodations, all meals and drinks while on board, VIP transfers, gratuities, enrichment and health programs (more on this in a moment), and daily excursions, including visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The variety that life offers enriches it.
I have to admit that I had some preconceived notions about river cruising being simply one standard product, but boy, was I ever incorrect! River cruising can be tailored to meet the requirements of virtually any preference, financial plan, or aesthetic preference. For example, have you ever considered taking a vacation on a river barge? Croisieurope provides a selection of vacations that involve barges and take place on canals all throughout France. These are private cruises for a small number of people that tour cities and villages in Alsace-Lorraine, Burgundy, and the Loire Valley, Provence, and the Camargue, Champagne, and the Canal Saint-Martin in Paris. They are like a home away from home. Wow, it is incredible!
Or, if you’re looking for something a little more out of the ordinary, how about a trip down the Mekong river? In point of fact, I would put this trip near the very top of my bucket list, regardless of the ship it is (and that says a lot). Explore the magical temples and floating water villages of Vietnam and Cambodia, all of which are located amid a lush tropical landscape. This adventure will take you through both countries. Finished off with a trip to the world-famous Angkor Wat temple during sunrise or sunset – I can’t think of many other things that would top that experience off more appropriately.
Physical labor and sound health
Wellness is another area that is experiencing growth on river cruises, as more and more passengers are looking to participate in wellness activities and maintain a healthy lifestyle. One such line that is at the forefront of this is AmaWaterways. They have invested in a whole wellness program on board, which includes not only a variety of fitness classes, including core strengthening and circuit training, but also occasional health and wellness-related lectures and discussions through AmaWaterways’ Wellness Programme.
When it comes to excursion options, there are ever more being made available. There are some cruise lines, such as Avalon, that allow passengers to tailor their excursions and onboard activities to their specific interests. Beginning in 2019, guests will have access to the following three categories of included excursions: The classic tour, in which a knowledgeable local guide takes you through the history and tradition of local destinations as well as the “must see” sites. Features pertaining to discovery You spend the day participating in stimulating and engaging hands-on activities that are specifically tailored to speak to your interests. In this way, you immerse yourself in the distinctive culture of the location. Finally, Active gives you the opportunity to participate in energizing outings that keep you moving and active, such as a guided running tour, as well as bicycling, kayaking, and hiking your way through picturesque locations. It is impossible to believe how many options are available.
What to eat and drink
One of the reasons I recommend sailing is because the food and beverages on board are of such high quality. River sailing is not an exception to this rule and is highly regarded for the quality that it provides.
I have lately spent some time on board, and I can confirm to the fact that this is an outstanding feature. Breakfasts will often feature a large selection of freshly made options, while lunches will consist of (at least) three courses. At supper, you may anticipate dishes that have been created using regional specialties and that feature local cuisine to the greatest extent feasible. Other cruise lines and ships, like those operated by Uniworld, provide passengers with other eating alternatives, such as the Le Bistrot restaurant.
After all of that, if you’re still hungry, you can purchase drinks and snacks like tea and coffee in the lounges, such as cookies, muffins, and fresh fruit. You can also obtain tea and coffee. Some cruise lines, like as Avalon, Uniworld, and Scenic, also have all-day cafes that provide hot dishes such hot dogs and baked pastries. These cafes are open throughout the day.
